The Alex Mack Effect
Today I want to write about music. I love music of all kinds. Really it just all depends on what mood I'm in. For example, you know those preset stations you can set in your car, mine go (1) Top 40 (2) Hip-hop and R&B (3) Best new country (4) Independent radio (5) 80s (6) Classic rock.
However, right now--hands down--I'm obsessed with John Mayer. I just can't get enough. I have always been a fan, but lately its all I seem to be listening to. His latest album, Battle Studies is Amazing. But I've also gone back to the beginning and rediscovered my admiration for Room For Squares, Heavier Things, and Continuum. JM has been in the media a lot lately, sadly not for his brilliant music talent, but bc he's kind of acting like a douche bag. Even with all this bad press, my opinion of him doesn't waiver. I think that the music speaks for itself [maybe he should let it do more of the talking]. I was lucky enough to see him twice in concert within the last month and it seriously is a collective experience that I will cherish for a lifetime.
But this isn't just about preaching the greatness that is JM. Its about the music. Its about that CD we all cling to like a best friend. Its about those songs that come on the radio and instantly takes you back to another time and place.
JM said "the best music becomes storage units for your memories". After I heard that I thought to myself, 'this is so true'. Looking back at past memories, adventures, and hardships there is always a song that I can pair to each situation. I think when our lives get crazy, the power of music to calm us, energize us, speak to our souls, rescue us from the mundane, and transform us (no matter how brief the time) is awe-inspiring.
So here is to your favorite song, your favorite album, and your favorite band/singer, be it Britney Spears or Beethoven. Embrace it, love it, share it with your friends.
To Do:
Find your favorite CD and listen to it from beginning to end [guarantee it will make you smile]
