Mother Earth
April 22 was Earth Day, this is one of my favorite days of the year. It's the day before my birthday and when i was in elementary school i used to get permission from my teachers to do an Earth Day presentation instead of a classroom birthday party. I would focus on a different endangered animal every year and teach the class about the importance of protecting and preserving our planet. I always through in some candy and a fun activity just for good measure.
Earth Day to me should be everyday. Now as an adult i don't have easy access to such a captivated audience as my elementary school class, but i think its even more important to spread the word. Everyone needs to take part in the solution bc in reality we are all the problem. Start by doing one thing and once you have acclimated that into your everyday routine add another thing, this is guaranteed to have a snowball effect and positively impact your imprint on the planet.
Here are some suggestions:
(1) Change to energy efficient light bulbs
(2) Unplug appliances when not in use
(3) Recycle your old electronics
(4) Support local farmers
(5) Only do Full loads of laundry
(6) Use a reusable water bottle instead of commercially bottled water
(7) Set your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and higher in the summer
(8) Use a drying rack instead of your drying machine
(9) Ride your bike or use public transport when possible
(10) Take shorter shower to conserve on water.
And for those of your that don't think there is anything worth saving, have a look at this:
