First Attempt
My first attempt at conquering Gram's cookbook is Sausage Lentil Soup.
It was the prefect day to make soup, a sunny fall day. I had all the windows in my apartment open and a perfect light breeze was blowing. I gathered all of my ingrediants after a couple of trips to the gerocery store: Mejiers for the basics and Horrock's for the produce. I chopped and measured and mixed everything things. Thats when the first red flag went off. I didn't have a pot big enough to hold everything. Soooo, I had to split my soup into two separate pots, which for my type A-direction prone-personality was a little frightening. However, after consulting my mom, I decided that as long as it was well monitored the two pot system should work out pretty well.
As far as recipes go, the soup was not hard to make. I did make one substitution however. I'm not the biggest fan of red meat, so I used turkey sausage instead of traditional italian sausage. After browning the sausage and putting everything together all that was left to do was wait. 3 hours later viola, multiple gallons of tasty sausage lentil soup was ready for my lunch. It turnedout great. I was flavorful and hearty and smelled great. Once I finished my lunch, red flag number 2 went off. What in the heck was I supposed to do with all of this soup. I didn't even have enough storage containers to hold the leftovers. So I decided the best thing to do was share the wealth. I packed some up for my sister, my mom, Alex, and put the rest in my freezer.
All in all my first attempt at this cooking thing went pretty well.
