Westminster Abbey
"This early English Gothic abbey is the shrine of the nation, and most of England's kings and queens have been crowned here--and many are buried here as well. Architecturally, its two highlights are the fan-vaulted Henry VII's Chapel and the shrine to Edward the Confessor, containing the tombs of five kings and three queens. The Poets' Corner, is where everybody from Chaucer to Robert Browning, Dr. Samuel Johnson, and Alfred Lord Tennyson rests in peace." -Frommer's
Visiting the Westminster was an experience I will never forget. Religious and cultural history is pouring out of every square inch of the place. It is breathtakingly beautiful and while I was touring the boys choir was practicing, which was just the icing on top of the cake. My favorite parts of the tour was the tomb of Mary Queen of Scots, the Poets' Corner, and of course the monument to Sir Isaac Newton. Its one thing to read about and know that places such as this exist, but it is completely different being there to experience it in person. To end my visit I took a moment to light a candle in the Nave and took a moment to reflect and pray for all of my loved ones who weren't able to share the experience with me. I wish you all could have seen it through your own eyes, but the few pictures I was permitted to take will have to do.
