Wine and Cheese Party
It is an annual tradition of the Notre Dame program to host a wine and cheese party in which both students and facility attend. This year the party held on July 14th and in honor of Bastille Day, featured French wine and cheese. Bastille Day is the French national holiday which is celebrate on the 14th of July each year. In France it is formally called La Fête Nationale. It commemorates the 1790 anizersary of the storming of the Batille fortress-prison, which was the beginning of French Indepence during the French Revolution.
It was a splendid opportunity to network with my fellow colleagues and professors. As well as a chance to indulge in some hand chosen food and drink, by Professor Mowens. The menu included wine and cheese of course, along with a variety of crusty breads, fresh cherries. We sampled French cheeses, such as Camembert, Brie, Bucheron, and Gaperon. We quenched our thirst with a delicious bouquet of both white and red wine. French wine is produced in several regions throughout France, in a quantity of about 7-8 billion bottles per year. France is the source of many grape varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah. The event introduced a much need break from our studies and was an enjoyable little soirée.
